Unique reference number for each entry

When I learned booking and accounts a hundred years ago we wrote a unique ID on each receipt. This allowed a receipt to be quickly found because they were in numerical order. Simple.

    Receipts now have a running and unique reference numbers in the system.

    UID would also be great to recognise and avoid duplicates in external apps, when exporting data into excel, filemaker etc.
